Discover Poulettes Bazar, a collection of decorative objects created by a KEDGE Alumna!

Cécile Sénémaud, ESC class of 1996, decided to launch her own brand of decorative objects/gifts, called "Poulettes Bazar" in 2015. She tells us about her wonderful entrepreneurial adventure.

Hello, Cécile! To begin, can you tell us about Poulettes Bazar, your brand for decorative/gift ideas?

The Poulettes Bazar adventure started at the Maison & Objet Paris fair in January 2015: a medium and high-end French design brand. When imagining Poulettes Bazar, I wanted to create a fun universe, offer gift and decorative ideas for the home, the beach, the pool... Poulettes Bazar also aims to create surprises, original and thoughtful ideas for your friends and family: an occasion to celebrate important moments and see the world through rose coloured glasses... It's daring to say "Yes, I can" with a temporary tattoo...

A SLOGAN: "A SPARKLING UNIVERSE".

The 1st Poulettes Bazar took place at the Maison & Objet Bazar, in an atmosphere of stress but also a lot of happiness. We said to yourselves, this is really it!

I started out with a collection, which is available in two ranges:

  • "Farniente" because we are Poulettes from the South. We have a strong desire to stick sardines and "qu’es aco" everywhere! It's our escape plan: vacation, grasshoppers, toes in the sand, lots of colourful and salty products...
  • "Tribu", an unconventional range for chatterboxes, those with a hard shell and a soft hard, happy ends, or Poulettes craving strawberries.

The first experience with strong in emotions, we set up a tattoo bar at the fair, so that no one left with out a Poulettes Tattoo! It was a great success, since our concept was picked as one of the most sparkling at the fair. A wonderful reward...

We have designed nomadic, all-terrain, poufs, called "Sit & Relax". Ideal for lounging in the sand or at the top of snowy mountain peaks! We also designed Chabadabada tattoos for Happy ends... and Sardines and "Bonne Mère" for the most laid back out there, table sets for brunches, as well as a range of lampshades in sparkly colours, notebooks, mugs, posters...

Today, we are continuing to release new products, and have designed a luxury Kids Club for private groups and hotels with big pouts, sun chairs, lamps, dishes, wall paper, table sets, temporary tattoos, and a whole universe of original furniture.

So, where is this bazar? A little everywhere, and maybe in your home soon? To be continued...

Where did you get the idea to start this projet?

I have always been full of ideas... I started out by working in several different fields in France, Spain, and Switzerland... and have always had a taste for novelties... After creating and setting up a product for a Swiss Airline, I decided to spread my own wings. I then imagined a collection in a huge bazar to begin with... The whole house was filled with samples, drawings, pieces of fabric, and the garage was full of prototypes. My daughter Inès, who was eight at the time, participated in this magical adventure. We could invent, transform, disrupt, and create whatever popped into our heads...is there anything more fantastic? She is my inspiration, my go-getter... I started to create designs from my overactive imagination, and draw a sparkling collection with my little Poulette. And...when a Bazar meets a Poulette, it's an instant Love Story that turned into Poulettes Bazar. What next? Everything accelerated very quickly. Imagine, design a logo: a rebellious, irresistible, and sparkling poulette of course!

Don't forget the following motto: Not even scared, let's go! And there you go... Hello Poulettes Bazar!

The first year was intense, creation, realisation of the dream, find suppliers, fair, website, e-shop, communication, social media management, sales, logistics, photos, product catalog... We woke up Poulettes, we ate Poulettes, we slept Poulettes, we dreamt Poulettes.... We had to do everything and know how to do everything! Even drive the trucks for photo shoots et fairs. We also launched a crowdfunding campaign with Kiss Kiss Bank.

There were a lot of sleepless nights, laughs, and tears, as well as so much joy. It was worth it to put together this amazing project! Today, the marketing strategy is evolving and becoming clearer. We are moving toward a line for kids. We understand each other well: they immediately adopt our products and projects (we must have a common language!)!

We got a lot of positive feedback, encouraging words, which really warmed our hearts, like this very nice compliments "happiness to resell with the Poulettes collection", "a collection that makes you feel better, that sparkles with happiness"... What do we want today? To continue this sparkling adventure and allow you to bring home a little of the bazar...

What are your current projects, objectives for the future?

We are constantly growing, the next step is to conduct a fundraising operation to develop the concept of Poulettes Bazar with a Poulettes shop, and expansion abroad. We are currently re-thinking the website, which will be completely redone. Our dream is to one day create a Poulettes café, but that'll be for later... we always have to keep our objective in mind. The bigger the dream, the more you will remember it, thank you Mr. Wilde.
