Stanislas Denis, KEDGE Alumnus and Founder of GetBiz, the service that makes the life of freelancers easier

In January 2020, Stanislas Denis launched GetBiz, an online service that helps freelancers in the different stages of their entrepreneurial projects.

The micro-entrepreneur (freelancer) status is a great way to start a new business. Unfortunately, too many projects are abandoned because of the administrative steps that have to be taken in order to create and manage a micro-business. Although it’s meant to simplify the process compared to that of traditional business models, it still requires time and administrative knowledge that can make it difficult for an entrepreneur to make progress.

The objective of GetBiz is to give freelancers the ability to be able to focus fully on their work without having to worry about the administrative procedures required to set up or manage their micro-enterprise and easily, quickly, and without stress. GetBiz provides assistance throughout the life of the business, whether it be in the creation, management, or closure of their micro-enterprise.

It is a turnkey service for freelancers who want to concentrate on their projects instead of wasting time on administrative procedures.

INTERVIEW WITH STANISLAS DENIS, GETBIZ FOUNDER 💬

To begin, tell us about what you did before you created GetBiz?

I started off studying law before I decided to go to KEDGE and set up GetBiz. The unusual thing is that I ended up there a bit by chance. From the beginning of my studies, I wasn't necessarily the best babysitter around. So, I would do small freelance jobs for other students, which made it possible for me to start my first business as a drone pilot in 2012. After that, I did some jobs as a community manager.

I had a bit of a turning point in my career life before I started GetBiz. In 2016, I moved to Paris and needed to find a side activity to do. I found out about the StaffMe platform and was one of the first people to register with them. StaffMe is a platform that puts freelancers in touch with companies for one-off assignments, which was exactly what I was looking for.

After working on small assignments for a year, I got an internship at StaffMe in April 2017 and gained work experience there. I worked on many different projects there and learned how micro-businesses are formed and developed. In fact, became the "specialist" at StaffMe for questions about the freelancer status, which is what gave me the idea to create GetBiz.

How did the education you received at KEDGE Business School help you become who you are today, and how did its teachings help you develop your business/ project?

When I started at KEDGE, I already had the idea of creating GetBiz in my head. I knew that I wanted to start my own company and in what field. However, I didn't know how to get started. So I used the school as a springboard to create my business by choosing which courses I wanted to take.

 

What are you doing today? What gave you the idea and the desire to do what you’re doing today?

GetBiz was finally launched in January 2020, when I came back from my UP. It was a bit like my end of studies internship. GetBiz was very present during all that time.

Today, GetBiz has a team of four people and has helped more than 10,000 people launch their micro-businesses in a variety of fields. We’re mainly involved in the creation of micro-businesses.

We launched a second product, last year, right in the middle of the lockdown! It’s a tool to help freelancers set up their businesses. As I was able to get the same type of help at KEDGE, I want to give back by teaching others who to estimate how much to charge for services, do a feasibility study, know the right questions to ask before launching, etc. It’s important to know that a well-prepared business is three times more likely to survive the first six months, which is a critical time for a start-up. GetBiz's also plans to create a management tool that will help freelancers even more by helping them meet the challenges of managing all the administrative procedures involved in a business, for example, the paying of social security contributions and VAT.

If you were to give advice to any KEDGE graduate who wants to do something similar, what would it be?

I've got lots of advice. The first is to take advantage of your time at school and work on your project, so you can talk to others about it and plan it out. It took me about two years to work on GetBiz. Talk to other people and choose courses that are relevant to your project. There are also lots of associations that can help you. Additionally, there are entrepreneurial competitions that are good to take part in so you can test out your ideas and see how it can be done. Take advantage of this opportunity and benefit from the time there. It’s super important.

I would also say that it’s easier to get started when you are young, so go ahead and contact me if you need help or if you just want to chat, I’m always available.
