This Kedger’s app solves your couple problems!

A 2006 KEDGE graduate, Olivier Ordonneau has just released a mobile app dedicated to the life in couple

Read the interview of Olivier Ordonneau. He just created "MatriMiles", which he developed at KEDGE’s Business Nursery. "Beyond the playful spirit that is its strength, MatriMiles has many features for you to interact with your partner, start a constructive dialogue, and discover a new way of communicating. Record all the tasks you do in the relationship, suggest actions to your partner, determine the value of each actions, and access original ideas to compensate for a possible lack of points." https://www.matrimiles.com

  • To begin, tell us about your educational background. What did you study, both before and at KEDGE?

I graduated from KEDGE in 2006 with a Master 2. As a member of the student board, I spent a large part of my first two years organising concerts, plays, and other festivals. Then I took a gap year, much of it as working as an intern in a recruitment firm in China. Then I came back to finish my education in Marseille

  • Tell us what you did after your studies were finished. What positions have you held? What did you learn in those positions?

I’ve spent my career in Human Resources, including about ten years as an expatriate for a multinational in the petroleum industry. From being an HR employee, I went to being HR Director for South America. It was a successful professional experience, but most of all as been a personal one, with my family. We’ve lived in 5 different countries in 10 years – in the Maghreb, the Middle East and South America.

  • What are you doing/what is your situation today? What gave you the idea and desire to do what are you doing today?

I’d been “titillated” by the idea of starting a business for a while, so I resigned from my comfortable position to start MatriMiles, a mobile app that keeps track of points in a couple. A big difference from my previous situation! The idea came to me when I was in South America. In Colombia and Argentina, there is a popular expression, "MatriPuntos" or "MatriMillas", which refers to the "points" earned by each of the couple (MatriMiles = Matrimonio = Marriage, and by extension, couple) which can then be “spent”. The typical example is to have enough "MatriMillas" to be able to go out with friends because the previous weekend was spent with the in-laws without complaining too much.

When I thought about it, I realised that most couples already keep track of points in their own way. It's often very informal, but it affects both daily life (I do the cooking, you do the dishes) and performance (I take care of the children all week, you take care of them on weekends). When couples don't talk to each other, it often generates frustration, even resentment. And when they do talk about it, they may not be even on the same page! Keeping track of points makes it possible to put your feelings on the table without any drama, and to approach complex subjects in a light-hearted way, all the while knowing that an action would be "worth" 10 points one day, but may be worth three times as much the next day depending upon the person’s state of fatigue or amount of desire. There is no absolute value, it all depends on the effort that everyone puts into it! On the scientific side, issues such as unconscious prejudices, cognitive biases, and mental workload are taken into account.

  • What are your business goals for the future?

First of all, make the app available on the Android platform, as soon as possible! Then, allow the app to develop an analysis of a person’s behaviour in order to offer advice on how to live a healthy and fulfilling relationship. These tips will take the form of messages or product proposals. If we perceive that you need to improve your romantic side, we will offer you products adapted to your needs, such as flowers or trips for two. Your ability to keep your relationship balanced will give you access to discounts from our partner companies. The goal is for MatriMiles to provide all registered couples with automated coaching, which will in turn allow them to focus on their relationship with each other based on their real needs. The idea is to build a robust service in France. I aim to reach 300k users before deploying internationally.

  • Olivier, anything else to add?

Tell everyone you know about MatriMiles! It’s an excellent topic of conversation at the office, with your family, or at parties. It will let you have heated debates about each other's place in a couple.
