Tanzania: this KEDGE student is participating in a humanitarian mission among the Maasai tribes

Alyssia Fischer, a student in KEDGE's MSc Finance programme, is launching a crowdfunding campaign in order to carry out a humanitarian mission in Tanzania, which aims to empower women and help them develop their craft businesses.

Alyssia, a 23-year-old student in sustainable finance at KEDGE in Paris, wants to go to Tanzania, at the foot of Kilimanjaro, to take part in a humanitarian mission to empower women and help them develop their craft businesses via the Masaa jewelry project, which has been hit hard by the health crisis.

Masaa Jewelry is a social business dedicated to supporting a group of Maasai women in Msitu wa Tembo and Londoto who are gaining economic independence and business skills through the making and selling of traditional Maasai jewellery.

Tatu Project, a local-scale project

The women in the Masaa project design and produce traditional Masaai beaded jewellery. The TATU Project, an NGO established in 2013, then buys the jewellery and sells it in cafes and shops in Moshi, where it can reach more customers and garner more sales.

"As part of my humanitarian mission, I will be coordinating the Masaa jewellery project. My first task is to find a new point of sale in the town of Moshi. My second is to organise workshops and training courses for Maasai women so they will gain the necessary tools that will allow them to independently manage their businesses. The courses will include business, accounting, literacy, quality control, and other skills related to project development. My next job is to find new partners to sell jewellery internationally. All income generated from sales will be reinvested in the project, making it 100% sustainable. Additionally, the project aims to bring more social aspects to the forefront, when the group dynamics lead to conversations about deeper personal issues… ." - Alyssia Fischer"
