At only 24 years old, these three Kedgers are launching a video editing start-up!

Louis, Thomas, and Hugo – all students in the PGE programme of in Bordeaux - connect companies and freelance video editors.

INTERVIEW 💬

1️⃣ To begin, tell us about your educational background. What did you study, both before and at KEDGE?

We all started our Master 1 in 2017 All three of us chose to do a customised programme at KEDGE during our first year, and then we all took a year off - Louis mostly in Asia; Thomas in Switzerland; and Hugo in Amsterdam! Louis studied law and received his degree from the University of Versailles Saint Quentin in Yvelines and, at the same time, worked as a volunteer firefighter; Thomas has a BTS in international business, and was an advisor with Porsche advisor while finishing his degree; Hugo has a Master 1 in law and management, which he received from the IAE in Toulouse.

2️⃣ Were you a member of any student associations when you were at KEDGE?

Thomas was a member of the BDE Waka Lokos in its canvassing centre, and was one of the organisers of the 2018 Kedge Gala! Louis in the communication centre of the Barrakud'As BDS – School Office and parkour coach.

3️⃣ Tell us what you did after your studies were finished. What positions have you held? What did you learn in those positions?

When it came time for his gap year, Louis continued to develop his marketing and communication skills via a six-month internship at NovaSolo, then he did a work-study programme with his current company during his final year. Thomas developed an aptitude for his skills while he was with Lexus France as a sales administration assistant, and then at Axom in Switzerland during a six-month internship as a business engineer! Hugo also completed two internships: one as Assistant Sales Manager at GIFI, and the other as Assistant Brand Manager for Scholl at RB in Amsterdam. These experiences toughened us up, made us open-minded, and gave us the motivation to go the extra mile to reach our goals.

4️⃣  What are you doing/what is your situation today? What gave you the idea and why do you want to do what you’re doing today?

We’ve known each other since the beginning of our M1 and we worked on a project together from the beginning! Louis has been directing videos for a long time. He decided to start doing it freelance after he received very positive feedback on his last videos. In particular, his video CV, which was immensely successful on LinkedIn, helped him clinch several work-study offers.

We came up with the idea of Orion when they saw how much video editors charge. Our objective was to meet the video needs of companies and individuals, which was mainly having their budget respected. To do this, we created a website where people can describe the video project they need and give us their objectives and budget! From there, we can offer their project to independent editors (beginners or professionals) and partners of Orion, to do the video editing. That way we give beginning editors who haven’t yet proven themselves a chance (such as students or young freelancers) to make their first videos and increase their audiences and portfolios! We’ve now launched an MVP on the market and already have requests for video editing.

5️⃣What are your development goals for the future?

We have several objectives. First of all, we want to develop a more complete and intuitive website in order to simplify both the project applicants and editors. We want to launch a communication campaign, which is why we are already canvassing companies to develop our project, and continue to grow. For this, we want to raise funds once the project is well-established.

6️⃣ How did your education at KEDGE Business School help you become who you are today, and what was it about its teachings helped you develop your project?

KEDGE pushed us to develop personal projects as we progressed in our courses. We are accompanied by a coach and we probably don't realise how much yet, but we’re moving forward much faster than if we hadn't gone to KEDGE. We’ve acquired a lot of skills and are now a very complete team in project development.

7️⃣ If you had to give advice to any other KEDGE graduate who would like to do something similar, what would it be?

Developing a project takes time, drives you crazy, but you won't regret anything. All failures are victories if you consider them to be lessons. You'll probably get less sleep before, but you'll fall asleep with a smile on your face as you advance.

8️⃣ Anything else to add? A message to pass along?

If you know any independent film editors who want to improve their skills and are looking for video projects, don’t hesitate to send them our way! At the same time, if you or your company need communication tools and videos, but are afraid of having to spend too much, contact us! Our editors are creative and know how to produce the videos you need at a lower cost.
