A Kedger creates the Blablacar of helicopter flights!

Vincent Kieffer, a 1988 KEDGE BS graduate, launches BookmyHelo, the first start-up that makes travel by helicopter more accessible

A 1988 KEDGE graduate and former executive at Airbus Helicopters (previously Eurocopter), Vincent Kieffer conceived of BookmyHelo in 2016, a Marseille start-up that allows passengers to share reservations on a transport helicopter, much like the well-known Blablacar app does for cars. The concept is a simple one. It allows the helicopter to be filled by pooling the seats, thereby reducing the costs and fees of transportation so you pay less.

"Like planes, many take off half empty because the flights don’t show up on shared booking sites. Our search engine indexes all offers with seats on board. The fuller the helicopter, the cheaper the place. We want to apply the model of low-cost airline companies to the helicopter world, with a simplified and easily accessible service,” explains Vincent Kieffer.

This platform makes helicopter flights accessible to everyone. With a simple app, or directly on its website, you can reserve and share a flight - from one airport to another, or from one city to another - to travel quickly and shorten the trip. Already operating in France in the USA, and soon in Brazil, the company offers, for example, 45-minute flights from Aix-en-Provence to Nice, or a 10-minute flight from the airport in Los Angeles to Orange County. As far as the fare, you can expect to pay between 100 and 200 euros on average for short journeys, depending upon the number of other passengers.

The young company has already participated in two CES's (International Consumer Electronic Shows) in Las Vegas, and at the international helicopter convention, HELI-Expo. “The CES enabled us to strengthen contacts and to sign contracts with operators from around the entire world”, beamed the founder. Vincent Kieffer dreams big and hopes to see a million passengers transported, and 22 million euros in revenue, in 2020: “We are positioning ourselves in a sector that is in full bloom, which is that of urban air mobility.  And we are including a technical dimension (application, data, artificial intelligence) which is indispensable in this day and age. We also want to integrate a "Clean-Tech" process by developing our activities in the electric air mobility of the future (like drones, for example)".
